Vidikron Intros 65-inch 1080p Plasma
Although few will be able to afford such a luxury unit anytime soon, Vidikron is introducing a 1080p, 65-inch plasma set with THX certification, which the company (owned by Runco International) said is designed to offer the brightest picture, best contrast ratio, deepest black levels and most accurate colors of any plasma product available on the market, according to Digital Home Canada.
The unit (model VP-6500VHD) has 1920x1080 native resolution, 16-bit video processing, and separate VHD controller's video processing, which Vidikron said allows viewing of 4:3 content in 16:9 without noticeable picture degradation.
The display is compatible with all ATSC HD resolutions and 24, 30 and 60 fps.
Vidikron said for high-altitude viewing, a second model (VP-6500VHDa) with identical features and specs to the 6500VHD contains a high-altitude plasma performance level effective at more than 9,000 feet above sea level.
The unit has two HDMI inputs, as well as component, S-Video and composite inputs. Price points will be about $20,000.
