BENTONVILLE, ARK.: Walmart rolled out a promotion today designed to peddle TVs and other electronics to folks buying Thanksgiving fixins’. For one week starting Saturday, the massive retailer is dropping the price of select electronic devices, including Sharp and Panasonic HDTV sets. A 42-inch 1080p Sharp will be priced at $498. Walmart didn’t provide model numbers, but a few were revealed in an ad that appeared on Yahoo! according to I4U News.
The site says the 42-inch Sharp is a LC-42SB45UT, listed at B&H Photo Video for $1,049. The
An unspecified 46-inch, 120 Hz Sharp model will be priced at $698 compared to around $1,200 on the Web for a similar set. The 52-inch, 120 Hz Sharp will be $898, about $400 less than the cheapest one that pops up in a Google Product search.
A 46-inch Panasonic plasma--theTC-P46U1--will go for $788, at least $200 less than Amazon’s current listing.
Walmart is a mad house on Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving when folks traditionally kick off their Christmas shopping. Last year, an employee at a New York store was killed on Black Friday when he was trampled by the crowd of 2,000 or so waiting to get in.
This year, the Black Friday specials are starting early. In addition to the TV sets, the retailer is offering up a HP Notebook with 3 GB of RAM and a 160 GM hard drive for $298. An Xbox 360 is going for $199 bundled with a $100 Walmart Gift Card. Sony’s BDP-S360 Blu-Ray player will be priced at $148, and the Magnavox DP170MGXF 1080p upconverting DVD player will be priced at $29.
The retailer didn’t miss a recent survey by the Consumer Electronics Association saying four out of five shoppers this year planned to buy electronics for gifts.
