WBNS-TV switches local HD newscast with Snell Kahuna
WBNS-TV, the Dispatch Broadcast Group's CBS affiliate in Columbus, OH, has rolled out its local newscast in HD with help from the Snell Kahuna multiformat SD/HD production switcher.
The broadcast group also has deployed a second Kahuna as part of the recent HD upgrade of its 10TV Productions division and the Ohio News Network (ONN), a 24-hour news channel collocated at the WBNS studios in Columbus. By incorporating SD sources into HD transmissions, the two Kahuna systems have given the broadcaster a smooth, cost-effective path to native HD broadcasting.
At WBNS, the Kahuna switcher is used for live HD news broadcasts and other live-to-server productions, including coverage of local events, such as food parades and telethons. Although primarily used for HD-originated content, WBNS still relies on Kahuna's multiformat capabilities to incorporate SD sources.
