WCBD Relies on Florical Automation
WCBD, the Media General NBC affiliate in Charleston, S.C., has gone to air with an upgraded Florical automation system at the station's new facility. The new building is a 38,000-square-foot broadcast facility that marks the transition to the digital standard and replaces the facility WCBD had operated in since 1954.
Florical worked with WCBD technical personnel and systems integrator Professional Communication Systems to design and install the automation system. The new system included hardware and software upgrades to the existing system, including an AirBoss on-air presentation controlling two Pluto AirSpace video servers, two HP/Pinnacle Mediastream video servers, an M2100 master control switcher and multiple DVCPRO videotape machines. The system uses SpotCacher for asset management functions, as well as ingest from library tapes. MediaTimer is used to time and segment programs for air.
