WLS-TV in Chicago has bought Telestream's FlipFactory file transfer automation technology to deliver news content.
The ABC O&O went live with FlipFactory in September, marking the final milestone for WLS's conversion to an all-digital news environment. The automated workflow at WLS start with incoming content being received in digital files from ABC NewsOne via a Pathfire DMG server. Media are sent to the FlipFactory server for automatic transcoding and delivery to a Thomson Grass Valley Profile XP server and metadata are sent to an Avid Media Browse news management system. News content is accessed and transferred directly from the Pathfire DMG client interface.
FlipFactory transcodes more than 300 pieces of content from ABC NewsOne per day, according to WLS Director of Engineering Kal Hassan.
