WLS-DT first in Chicago with local HD news
On Jan. 6, 2007, WLS-DT/TVC, the ABC affiliate in Chicago, will become the first TV station in the market to broadcast its entire local news and programming line-up in HD, with 33 hours of weekly local news in HD.
The station currently operates the only HD helicopter in the market and was the first to provide video and audio podcasting, as well as making up-to-the-minute election results available via Web-enabled cell phones and wireless devices.
Kal Hassan, vice president of engineering, said that WLS-DT has one of the most advanced, all-digital facilities in the country. It includes an all-digital infrastructure with HD control rooms, HD studio and handheld field cameras, HD graphics weather system and HD-capable live ENG trucks.
