WPXI, Pittsburgh Cable News Channel to build new studio
Cox Broadcasting Company is building a new studio facility and digital media center for WPXI and Pittsburgh Cable News Channel (PCNC) in Pittsburgh, PA.
The staff of WPXI, the Pittsburgh NBC affiliate, also produces news for cable-only distribution in the Pittsburgh area. The new studio will replace a decades-old facility at the Television Hill transmitter site. It is due to be complete in the fall of 2007.
The television production facilities will incorporate the latest digital software and hardware innovations for television origination and distribution.
To design and build the new facility, Cox Broadcasting has selected AZCAR to design, procure equipment and be responsible for the technical construction of the new facility. The systems integrator also is working with engineers at other Cox stations to help develop an overall technology plan for the group's 15 stations.
The new Pittsburgh broadcast studios will be located in a 70,000sq ft building on a 14-acre tract of land. The transmitter and tower will remain on Television Hill.
