The World Teleport Association (WTA) has released its rankings of the Top Teleport Operators of 2007. The organization broke its rankings into three categories: the Global Top 20, the Independent Top 20 and the Fast 20.
The rankings were based on information submitted by the companies as well as the published results of publicly held corporations. The rankings include companies that own and operate teleports, whether it’s their primary business or a platform to provide a broader array of services to clients.
Global Top 20
As the owner of U.S. telco Broadwing as well as Vyvx, Level 3 Communications was the leader in the Global Top 20. The total revenues of the Global Top 20 exceed $12.8 billion, with individual companies ranging from more than $3 billion to less than $100 million.
Independent Top 20
The Independent Top 20 ranks companies based on revenue from all sources, but excludes companies whose core business is ownership and operation of a satellite fleet or terrestrial network. The total revenues of the Independent Top 20 exceed $2.2 billion, with individual companies ranging from more than a half billion dollars to less than $20 million. Bethesda, MD-based Stratos Global topped the rankings in this category.
Fast 20
The Fast 20 ranks all teleport-operating companies based on year-over-year revenue growth in their most recent fiscal years. Israel-based Satlink led the pack with a stellar 116.28 percent growth rate. Though the teleport operations of Vyvx make up a small portion of its revenue, fiber giant Level 3 also made the Fast 20 by virtue of its aggressive series of acquisitions, as did Fast 20 companies Arqiva Satellite Media Solutions and UpLit.
