WXIX-TV Nears Local HD Launch in Cincinnati
Within the next couple weeks, WXIX-TV in Cincinnati (DMA no. 34) will join the growing list of local broadcasters to make the transition for its local news, sports and weathercasts to HD. The Fox affiliate (Fox19) was gearing up to transmit in 720p.
While HD cameras will not at first be used in the field, the station will unveil a new HD-centric news set and grow its local HD infrastructure in the months and years ahead.
"You can never stop evolving. For every new piece of technology, every new platform, we have to find our way—or somebody else will," Fox 19 news anchor Jack Atherton said. The jump to local HD will likely occur by mid-November, if not sooner, Atherton told the Cincinnati Inquirer.
At least one other commercial outlet—ABC affiliate WCPO-TV—has also made the local HD jump in the Cincinnati market, according to a list compiled by sister publication Television Broadcast.
