XstreamHD to Deliver 1080p via DBS
XstreamHD has deployed a content supply scheme that it says is designed to signal “a major shift in the distribution of [HD] content” directly to consumers. The firm plans to use its transport network to deliver 1080p video and 7.1 channels of lossless audio directly to American dwellings, schools and offices.
The McLean, Va.-based firm uses proprietary technology that serves as the engine for a network (independent, it says, of existing infrastructure) using existing geosynchronous satellites to transport HD content to XstreamHD’s own media server via a small-aperture DTH satellite antenna. The antenna would be used to disperse content to several media receivers throughout the home, if desired.
XstreamHD plans to first demo its new technology at CES2008 in Las Vegas, Jan. 7-10.
