Zogby research reveals strong interest in Blu-ray Disc players
Blu-ray Disc players were highly desired gifts among HDTV owners heading into the holiday season, according to the results of a Zogby International survey released Dec. 23.
According to the research organization, Blu-ray players were second only to another HDTV set among owners of HDTVs. When asked how excited they would be to receive one of today’s top home electronics products, more than 30 percent of respondents said they were extremely/very interested in getting a Blu-ray player. By way of comparison, 28 percent said they had the same level of interest in digital cameras; 22 percent MP3 players; and 18 percent a Sony Playstation 3, which plays Blu-ray Discs.
The research also found that two-thirds of Blu-ray households (individuals who currently have a Blu-ray player or Sony PlayStation 3) indicated a desire to purchase a Blu-ray movie for themselves. More than 55 percent of all respondents indicated some interest in purchasing a Blu-ray movie for their family members or friends who own a Blu-ray player or a PS3.
The Zogby research was conducted online Dec. 2-4, 2008, and sampled 1726 HDTV owners.
