Black Hawk crashes after striking tower guy wire
By TVTechnology
published On Nov. 30 an Army Black Hawk helicopter carrying a general and six other soldiers crashed, killing all onboard after striking a guy wire attached to KXXV-TV’s 1700ft broadcast tower in central Texas.
The accident happened at about 6:45 a.m. as the helicopter flew low in a dense fog from Ft. Hood to the Red River Army Depot in Texarkana, which straddles the Texas-Arkansas state line.
A statement posted on the station’s Web site said the tower lights failed last week during severe weather and that the station had notified the Federal Aviation Administration of the outage.
