Clear Channel TOC to run master control for KVOS-TV

Switching between the TOC’s feed to the station’s news feed is seamless and controlled by KVOS.

KVOS-TV in Bellingham, WA, has selected Clear Channel Television’s Tulsa, OK, -based television operations center (TOC) to handle all of its master control operations.

KVOS, an independent station that serves Bellingham, WA, and Vancouver, BC, joins the UPN and FOX affiliates in Tulsa as clients of Clear Channel’s TOC.

The Clear Channel TOC will provide the station’s program stream, which includes all the programming, commercials and transmitter monitoring, including raising and lowering power when necessary. It also will provide all of KVOS’s emergency alert system operations. Switching between the TOC’s feed to the station’s news feed is seamless and controlled by KVOS.

From a logistics standpoint, programming can be handled in one of several ways. Programs can be put together in Tulsa from tapes KVOS submits, or the station can put tapes into the system or put its programs into the system and stream them to the TOC via FTP over a DS3 high bandwidth line. The Clear Channel TOC can put them into a file storage system from which they can be played out according to the KVOS’s program schedule.

The process is basically the same for commercials, promotional service announcements, public service announcements and all other announcements stored on the TOC system. Even station logos and call letters can be superimposed over programming by the TOC.
