‘CPI’ spot can’t find a home on cable in New Jersey

Verizon’s “CPI” 30-second commercial is intended to inform viewers that cable rates have quadrupled since 2001 - if the commercial can get on the air.

Comcast and Time Warner in New Jersey are refusing to run a 30-second commercial from Verizon called “CPI” that tells viewers of the 86 percent rise in rates since 1995, according to a press statement from the provider of cable competitor FiOS.

Verizon also contends that Cablevision did not respond to the company’s e-mails seeking placement of the commercial. The “CPI” sport, which refers to the government’s Consumer Price Index, states that since 2001 cable prices have increased four times as much as the Consumer Price Index.
