Crispin NewsWheel adds revenue stream for DTV operators
NewsWheel from Crispin.
Crispin announced their NewsWheel, a solution that allows broadcasters with existing news productions to add additional DTV programming streams with little investment.
The system offers complete control over on-air programming and provides support for live news, weather cut-ins, and commercial breaks. NewsWheel executes multiple active rundowns, as entered by producers through newsroom computer systems (NRCS.) The solution, while working seamlessly with the NRCS, switches to studio output to support live news cut-ins and triggers master control automation to roll commercial breaks. NewsWheel uses MOS, serial and FTP methods interfaces to interface with the NRCS.
The ability to perform live news cut-ins can be accomplished by creating a custom event that causes automation to switch to studio output. The system allows the current event to finish before switching to a live event, resulting in a smooth transition. Operators may then trigger out of the live news cut-in to continue to the next NewsWheel element. Producers can quickly add on-screen file cabinets for drag & drop of stock playlists, join-in-progress events or alerts. Changes in show format and content order are recognized by NewsWheel and reflected immediately in the Crispin playlist.
NewsWheel allows facilities to take advantage of expanded bandwidth and existing news productions to create a 24-hour local news or weather channel. By using existing resources, NewsWheel provides another option for broadcasters looking to drive new advertising revenue.
