DVB Consortium includes Dolby Digital Plus in new specification
Dolby Laboratories has announced that the DVB, the consortium committed to designing global standards for digital TV, will include Dolby Digital Plus (technical name: E-AC3) as an option in the latest version of its specifications.
Dolby Digital Plus was included as an option in the DVB’s audio video specifications at the request of various parties within the consortium, including broadcasters and electronics manufacturers. It has also already been selected by the DVD Forum as a mandatory audio format for HD-DVD, and has been nominated by the Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) as a Candidate Standard for future robust channel transmission. Dolby Digital Plus is an extension of the Dolby Digital format, an audio standard for DVD-video players worldwide.
