Facilis delivers TerraBlock 2.0
Facilis Technology, a specialist in shared media storage for post-production facilities, has announced shipment of TerraBlock 2.0, a system that offers multimedia professionals the power of spanned virtual volumes and enhanced data protection.
By introducing parity (RAID5) as well as mirroring within the company's Dyna-RAID feature, TerraBlock 2.0 is a shared storage network that gives video professionals dynamic per-volume data protection. Unlike static RAID protection, this feature allows users to change the method of protection on a virtual volume, at any time, without affecting captured data.
This feature, the company said, breaks the “all or nothing” rules of RAID protection and allows the facility to make best use of the system's storage capacity and bandwidth.
The company said Dyna-RAID makes TerraBlock 2.0 a good choice for facilities working in various stages of post production, from compressed SD to uncompressed HD; 2K/4K digital intermediate workflow; graphics and content creation and mixed audio and video workgroups.
TerraBlock 2.0 also introduces Facilis TANDEM spanning technology, a volume spanning architecture that uses a combination of servers in a virtual pool of storage to meet ultra-high bandwidth requirements for multiple 2K and HD players. This allows a TerraBlock network to distribute bandwidth of more than 2000MB/s — making it ideal for collaborative 2K DPX film work, multi-stream 1080i 4:4:4 video, or color correction workflows with 4K 24fps film playback.
