The FCC adopted a measure aimed at making the introduction of unlicensed wideband devices in the 6GHz, 17GHz and 24GHz bands easier.
In its Report and Order, the commission amended rules for general Part 15 unlicensed operations using wide bandwidth but not classified as UWB devices under its rules by increasing peak power limits and reducing unwanted emission levels for the 5925-7250MHz, 16.2-17.2GHz and 23.12-29GHz bands. The new rules also permit frequency hopped, swept frequency and gated systems operating within these bands to be measured in their normal operating mode.
The commission dismissed a Petition for Reconsideration filed by the Satellite Industry Association. The FCC said it will continue to monitor the situation in the 4GHz band. It also denied a Petition for Reconsideration filed by Cingular.
FCC commissioners adopted the Second Report and Order and Second Memorandum Opinion and Order at its regular monthly meeting at FCC headquarters in Washington, D.C.
