The FCC has enhanced its online Tower Construction Notification System (TCNS) with the aim of making the system more user-friendly and productive when submitting and responding to tower construction notifications.
The TCNS is a voluntary system for tower builders to identify and begin early communication with federally recognized Indian Tribes, including Alaska Native Villages, Native Hawaiian Organizations, NHOs, and State Historic Preservation Officers.
The enhancements will save tribes and NHOs time and resources when responding to notifications regarding the proposed construction of towers and other commission undertakings. The goal is to allow tribes and NHOs to protect archaeological resources and sites of traditional and cultural importance more efficiently.
For the industry, the changes to the system will allow an applicant to refer a TCNS notification to the commission for follow up with a tribe or NHO, or refer it the FCC for follow-up with the tribe or NHO when a notification was submitted to a tribe or NHO outside of the TDNS system.
The commission conducted a public demonstration of the enhancements March 30.
