Harmonic adds support for QVGA, SIF to Electra 5400 SD encoders
Harmonic last week announced expanded support for mobile video on its DiviCom Electra MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) compression platform.
The company’s Electra 5400 SD H.264 encoders now support the QVGA and SIF formats, typically used for lower-resolution applications such as video delivery to automobiles via satellite transmission or IP-based streaming to the PC and handheld devices. The Electra platform, first introduced in 2005, features video preprocessing, dynamic noise reduction, full multipass hierarchical look-ahead compression and IP-based statistical multiplexing for delivering high-quality video at low bit rates.
