The FCC ‘s independent panel on the impact of Hurricane Katrina will hear presentations from the public at its next meeting.
The panel held its inaugural meeting Jan. 30 at commission headquarters in Washington, D.C.
According to an FCC notice, those interested in addressing the panel at its next meeting focus their presentations on:
- the impact of Hurricane Katrina on telecommunications and media infrastructure and public safety communications;
- the sufficiency and effectiveness of the recovery effort with respect to this infrastructure;
- ways to improve disaster preparedness, network reliability and communications among first responders such as police, fire fighters and emergency medical personnel.
Presentations should last 5 to 10 minutes. To participate, submit a written request to Lisa Fowlkes, designated federal officer of the panel by e-mail at: Lisa Fowlkes.
Include the name of the presenter and the organization represented, a description of the presentation and a biography of the presenter.
The independent panel reviewing the impact of Hurricane Katrina on communications networks was established to review the effect of the storm on the telecommunications and media infrastructure in the affected area and recommend ways to improve disaster preparedness, network reliability and communications among first responders. Currently, the date of the next meeting has not been set.
