The Lectrosonics Venue receiver system was a key element to the success of the NAB-HD production laboratory.
Lectrosonics provided a full complement of wireless microphone systems for NAB-HD, the fully operational television broadcast station that operated from the show floor at the Las Vegas Convention Center during the recent NAB Convention.
The company provided two Venue VRM master units outfitted with eight VRS receiver modules for use in the studio, together with a pair of SNA600 dipole antenna systems. Two UT400 VM handheld transmitters and six M152/5P lavalier microphones with LM belt-pack transmitters were available in the studio, while five UT400 VM handheld microphones, each paired with a UCR401 camera-mount receiver, were assigned to ENG crews.
The NAB-HD operation included a fully functioning HD television facility incorporating HD studio, production and editing facilities, plus an automated multi-service master control environment and an HD theater. The 5000squ ft broadcast exhibit, staffed by more than 40 volunteers, was designed as a “living laboratory” to distribute both recorded and live programming to attendees at the Las Vegas Convention Center, in local area hotels, and over the Internet.
Lectrosonics wireless equipment was chosen as a result of an experience that NAB-HD project director Nigel Spratling had during last year’s project debut. Because of the vast array of RF products being demonstrated on the NAB show floor, the team was reticent to use wireless. However, a Lectrosonics system borrowed at the request of a segment producer for an on-camera interview worked flawlessly, setting the stage for this year’s more comprehensive involvement.
