MiKo debuts with Prince
Keyboardist Morris Hayes, a veteran of Parliament-Funkadelic and long a member of Prince’s band, debuted Austin, TX-based Open Labs’ MiKo portable media workstation during a performance with Prince on NBC’s Saturday Night Live. Prince’s first SNL performance since 1989 featured Hayes playing the newly released MiKo, as well as the company’s NeKo keyboard workstation, on two songs.
First introduced at the winter NAMM convention in January, the NiKo features an integrated Windows XP computer with AMD Athlon 64-bit processor, synthesizer, video recorder/mixer and broadband Internet hub in a portable design. The MiKo can record, edit, mix, master, burn and distribute high-definition video or 7.1 surround audio on DVD or audio CD, or transmit it directly to the Internet via Ethernet or Wi-Fi.
