Mir TV transitions to tapeless news production
Mir TV, owned by members of the Commonwealth of Independent States (the former Soviet Republics), has chosen Dalet Digital Media Systems’ Dalet Enterprise Edition for its tapeless news production operation.
The new installation will provide Mir TV with a full suite of integrated news production capabilities, including a comprehensive newsroom computer system, video production tools, a MAM framework and an editorial workflow engine. The end-to-end workflow will be interoperable with a variety of broadcast hardware including AutoScript teleprompters, DDN production storage, Quantum StorNext, Front Porch Digital archiving, graphics systems and video servers.
To facilitate the migration to the Dalet tapeless workflow, Mir TV is working with Dalet in a phased approach. During the first phase, the broadcaster will deploy a fully featured Dalet newsroom computer system as well as Dalet ingest servers integrated with an HSM system for storing media archives. Existing Mir TV video archives will be digitized and stored in the new system.
The second phase of the project will include installation of a comprehensive set of video production tools as well as Dalet news automation for controlling playout from the Omneon video servers. Systems integrator ISPA will assist in the deployment process.
The new Dalet workflow will include workstations for 40 journalists. Each will offer Dalet's desktop production and story creation tools. Twenty more Dalet WebSpace clients will provide the same production capabilities for journalists working remotely via a standard Internet connection. From their desktops, they will be able to produce stories, view rundowns, access video content, add voice-overs and manage live and automated graphics. The Dalet user interface is fully translated into the Russian language to make it easier for Russian-speaking journalists to use.
The underlying Dalet MAM infrastructure manages editorial and technical metadata. Metadata for scene changes, video details and sources are automatically generated by Dalet or logged by users. Because the Dalet workflow engine standardizes metadata logging, content stored in the Dalet content catalog is well-referenced, enabling users to easily find relevant content quickly.
