Neumann introduces TLM 49
The Neumann TLM 49 uses modern design to leverage the legacy of a classic capsule.
Neumann has announced the introduction of the TLM 49, a large diaphragm studio microphone. This new model applies modern engineering and manufacturing techniques to the K47 capsule, the same one used in the company’s classic M49 and U47 mics from the 1950s. The unit’s large cardioid capsule measures 34mm and is said to exhibit a tendency toward supercardioid performance.
This new mic features a low self-noise and high gain in a transformerless design. Frequency response is flat to 2kHz, above which there is a mild presence boost up to 3dB for a distinctively warm sound. Designed for vocals and speech applications, the TLM 49 handles up to 114dB SPL without distortion over an A-weighted dynamic range of 102dB. It comes in a matte nickel finish and an EA 3 elastic suspension case is included. Initial shipment is expected in May.
