NHK adopts DVCPRO HD
Japan Broadcasting Corporation (NHK) will begin using Panasonic DVCPRO HD products in August.
NHK, the public broadcaster in Japan, will take delivery of nearly 200 camcorders and VTRs, including 124 AJ-HDX900 camcorders and 77 AJ-HD1400 compact recorders. These new DVCPRO HD EX series products will be used for HD production by NHK local stations.
Commercial TV stations and other broadcasters in Japan are replacing standard-definition broadcast equipment with high-definition production gear because digital terrestrial broadcasting will start in every district of the country by December. All news and entertainment will be shifted to digital high-definition broadcast with high-quality video and audio before discontinuance of analog broadcasting in 2011 in Japan.
