Sennheiser unveils two new wireless products

Sennheiser’s new product announcements at Musikmesse in Germany included the SK_5212 ultra-compact wireless transmitter.

Sennheiser displayed two new additions to the company’s wireless offerings at the recent Musikmesse trade show in Frankfort, Germany. The SK 5212 is a small wireless body-pack designed to work with the company’s 3000 and 5000 series wireless receivers, while the Net 1 is a multichannel wireless networking system offering command and control for up to 10 wireless systems in a single rack space.

In terms of size and weight, the SK 5212 transmitter Sennheiser’s smallest ever. Its output power is switchable between 10mW and 50mW, and gets six hours of high-power operation from one AA battery. Its frequency bandwidth is a 36MHz, selectable in 5KHz steps and fully switchable within the entire UHF range of 450MHz to 960MHz. The menu-driven backlit display uses a jog dial for setup and shows AF, RF, battery level and frequency information. A two-stage low-cut filter reduces wind and handling noise, and input sensitivity is adjustable from –30dB and +40dB. The SK 5212 also accepts frequency synchronization commands from the new Net 1 wireless networking system.

The Net 1 is a single rack space unit that allows easy configuration of up to 10 Sennheiser wireless systems. The Net 1 scans frequency groups to identify open and compatible channels, then automatically sets frequencies for all connected receivers. An infrared link sets the frequency for all 5200 series transmitters, as well as G2 300 and 500 Evolution series units (firmware update required). PC users can also achieve remote control of the Sennheiser 3532 IEM receiver. For larger installations, multiple Net 1 units can be cascaded together via an Ethernet connection with live system monitoring via PC.

The SK 5212 sub-miniature body-pack is slated for April availability, while the Net 1 wireless networking system is planned for June. Both new products will be on display at the upcoming NAB show in Las Vegas.
