Snell & Wilcox, Omneon integrate mastering and server playout solution
Snell & Wilcox’s MEMPHIS broadcast mastering encoder is now integrated with the Omneon SPECTRUM video server. This solution provides high quality MPEG-2 encoding along with the flexible control over media assets during ingest. It is both SD- and HD-compatible.
Based on two technologies from Snell & Wilcox — Ph.C phase correlation motion estimation and Prefix compression pre-processing — the MEMPHIS encoder accepts both SD and HD 1080i/720p formats as well as uncompressed PCM, MP1L2, Dolby E, and AC-3 audio. It can encode at any MPEG-2 profile including 4:2:0 and 4:2:2, CBR/VBR, and I-Frame/Long GOP up to 175Mb/s. Using the SMPTE 302M standard for audio encoding, both compressed and non-compressed audio streams can be embedded by the encoder into the MPEG-2 output and then captured, stored, and automatically routed at playout by the SPECTRUM to suit customer requirements.
The SPECTRUM is built on an open architecture that allows it to support a broad variety of third-party applications for control and transmission, media management, archiving and collaborative production. As a result, stored media can be shared among many users and applications.
