The new SNS X-4 is a stackable SAN.
Studio Network Solutions has announced the newest product in its globalSAN family, the X-4.
The compact storage area network (SAN) has been created for multi-room audio production studios that use Digidesign‘s Pro Tools Digital Audio Workstations (DAW).
The X-4 is offered as a complete package that includes 1.6TB of SATA storage in a 1U enclosure. It contains a single RAID controller and two client licenses of SAN software. Workstations can connect directly to the X-4 over Gigabit Ethernet and share RAID-protected storage as they would to a more expensive Fibre Channel SAN.
The product is based on the iSCSI protocol, which maximizes the performance of Gigabit Ethernet. The X-4 offers more bandwidth and greater distance capabilities – up to 90 meters – available over USB or FireWire.
