The European offices of WSDG, led by general manager Dirk Noy, have been engaged to redesign several suites within the historic GTRK Kultura Sound complex in Moscow. The studios, which date back to the 1930s, were once affiliated with the government-sponsored broadcasting network of the former USSR, and Russia’s national radio music archive. More than 300,000 tapes were recorded at the facility.
The first phase of the project is a 1500sq ft voice-over studio to be used primarily for radio drama productions, overdubbing and Foley work. The studio supports all current surround formats. The next phase, the remodeling of a 7500sq ft hall designed to host live performances, is also underway. The completed hall will seat an audience of 150.
Additional phases scheduled to commence in 2006 include the addition of several surround sound control and mixdown suites with a central machine room. WSDG partner John Storyk is collaborating with Noy on the project. Switzerland’s J+C Intersonic will serve as systems and equipment consultant, while Moscow-based I.S.P.A. Engineering will handle general supervision and construction management.
