NAB2007 Adds Several New Conferences

With the pace of new technology traveling at lightning-speed, it’s a godsend to have one location where it all ties together. For many, that one location is the annual NAB convention. To help keep up with the latest technology and dazzling products, several exciting conferences are new to this year’s NAB2007 schedule.

“We know that NAB attendees have a need for up-to-date information about evolving digital media technologies,” said John Marino, vice president of NAB science and technology. “For NAB2007 we have tailored several new world-class conferences, workshops and forums to educate our attendees about the latest technology developments important to them and their businesses. These focused educational opportunities are unique to the NAB Show.”

Director of Photography Workshop – April 14-15

On Saturday and Sunday, the Director of Photography (DP) Workshop will present two full days of cutting-edge training for professional DPs as well as assistant camera operators who wish to get the latest on working with today’s leading HD cameras.

Taught by top industry DPs and production gurus, the sessions will offer indepth information for each of today’s leading cameras models, comparing and contrasting their features and benefits. With the help of conference partner Future Media Concepts, the Director of Photography Workshop will also explore important technologies such as tapeless acquisition using both disk drives and card-based media.

NAB Digital Tech Guru Workshop – April 15

To prepare for the rapidly expanding world of production and post-production, Sunday’s one day NAB Digital Tech Guru Workshop will help professionals optimize their faculty’s performance from setting up shared networks capable of HD video to properly wiring a large facility.

This new workshop will give the production manager, facility owner or budding engineer insights into what it takes to keep small- and medium-sized facilities up and running smoothly by exposing them to new technologies. This workshop provides training for those coming to NAB2007 to shop for the latest solutions to maximizing facility productivity.

Rich Media Web Development Conference – April 15-16

The NAB Rich Media Web Development Conference, taking place Sunday and Monday, will introduce the tools beginning and intermediate Web professionals need to make the most of the Internet and Web 2.0.

Facing expectations of interactivity, on-line broadcasting and Web applications, conference attendees will learn about new technologies such as Ajax, Prototype, script.aculo.us, ActionScript 3.0, Flash Video and Flex, as well as old favorites like XHTML, XML, JavaScript and CSS.

Seasoned developers will be able to skip to the conference’s advanced track, which will accelerate to the latest practices, secret tricks, timesaving tips and strategies to gear content for the 21st Century Web.

Sports Technology Forum - April 16

Monday’s inaugural Sports Technology Forum offers an overview of the challenges facing everyone who produces and distributes live sports content, with an emphasis on high-quality HD production of live events.

Expert panels will feature key sports network leaders and top players in the sports technology market. Panels will also include a 10-minute “Master Class Presentation” by a leading expert in the field on a specific solution and approach to the panel topic.

Telecom@NAB2007 – April 16-18

On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, a new conference series and exhibition program for telecom professionals and network operators will leverage NAB’s decades of expertise in the delivery of video and audio content to consumer audiences.

Co-produced by telecom industry consultant Lightbulb Communications, Telecom@NAB2007 complements NAB’s executive programs on IPTV and Mobile TV, co-produced by iHollywood Forum.

Telecom@NAB2007 will consist of three sessions and two events designed to expand on NAB’s existing conferences, including workshops on podcasting, video production, and digital cinema. The new sessions include: the “Broadband Video Conference” (Monday and Tuesday), concentrating on acquisition and manipulation of content including encoding, ingestion, compressing, editing; “Telecom Technology Papers” (Tuesday and Wednesday), presenting telecom technology papers authored by the thought leaders in the field; and “Telecom Video Production Crash Course” (Wednesday), a workshop for a select group of telecom company professionals who want to learn the basics of nonlinear editing, video rendering, video compression, encoding, format selection, cameras and small format video operations.

In addition, Telecom@NAB2007 invites attendees to the Telecom Supplier Exhibits, a highly focused and intimate IP/broadband video exhibit area exploring the relevant technologies involved with deploying new media video.

Attendees can also sign up for Show Floor Tours, which will provide specially customized and guided tours of the main NAB exhibit floor. From video production to distribution right into the consumer’s home, each Show Floor Tour will focus on a different segment of the IP/broadband video ecosystem.
