NewTek Inc. — Jim Plant, Chief Executive Officer
Jim PlantQ. What kind of products or services does your company offer for broadcasters?
NewTek offers the TriCaster product line, a line of portable live production systems. TriCaster is a live truck small enough to be carry-on, offering live switching of up to six cameras, titling, clip roll-ins, live virtual sets (on most models) and live streaming in either Flash or Windows Media. NewTek also offers LightWave 3D, a 3D animation and special effects tool that many broadcasters use to create motion graphics and visual effects.
Q. What's new that you will exhibit at the NAB Show and what should broadcasters look for there?
NewTek is excited to present 3PLAY, a multichannel, HD replay and slow motion system that is smaller and more affordable than anything else in the industry. 3PLAY records three 1080i or 720p sources in perfect sync, with immediate replay and slow motion. After the event, producers can quickly export replays from ISO cameras, with an associated EDL for quick posting.
Q. How is your new product offering different from what's available on the market?
Where most video servers are designed as room-size installations, 3PLAY is in a compact form-factor that is just 20 pounds. Three HD inputs and three simultaneous HD outputs with 11 hours of internal recording has never been available at a sub $25,000 price point until now. 3PLAY is also valuable for ISO recording of three cameras and for delayed feeds of live events for better control and to minimize on-air liability.
Q. How has your company been affected by the current economic situation and what are you doing to get through it?
Just like everyone during this economy, NewTek has taken a step back to examine the value of current processes and practices. With that said, NewTek has a background in providing cost-effective, affordable solutions. It's become unrealistic to rely solely on the resource intensive, traditional live broadcast solutions of television trucks and studios with large infrastructure and crews and we are fortunate that customers look at NewTek TriCaster as a refreshing alternative.
TriCaster provides broadcasters the ability to be nimble and affordably deliver live broadcasts from any location. With TriCaster, they can expand their coverage by sending individuals or small teams to events and locations. They can also add advertising to these productions and streams to generate revenue within their organization.
Q. Where are you based, and how many employees do you have? Anything else we should know about your company?
We are a private company based in San Antonio, Texas.
