TeamCast — Serge Mal
(click thumbnail)Serge MalQ. What broad technology trends do you think will be front-and-centre at IBC2008?
Technology trends at IBC2008 will certainly include the emergence of T2, the second generation standard for DTTV, which is key to pushing DTTV towards new national and local services. We will have testimony of reconsolidation within IPTV markets and mobile TV with the development of additional cross services between operators and broadcasters, and a new distribution of the business resulting from the forthcoming analogue switch-off, with new players (with cash flow, such as mobile telecom operators) entering the broadcast business. We also will see that the traditional transmission business is gradually evolving beyond the basic distribution of programmes, with a growing integration of added-value services.
Q. What’s new that you will show at IBC2008 and that broadcasters should look for there?
We will have working demonstrations to show our product offering is really standards agnostic, in compliance with the various ecosystems of current and new broadcasters and telecoms players. Adopting TeamCast’s OEM solutions gives immediate access to a set of global digital transmission technologies for the worldwide markets. Several on-air product demonstrations will definitely reinforce this unique selling point. Beyond transmission, our solutions also meet requirements of the ENG and test-and-measurement businesses.
Q. How is your new product offering different from what’s available on the market?
Our worldwide multi-standard offering for DTTV, mobile TV and hybrid satellite/terrestrial transmission is very unique, beyond its top-level performance, reliability, in full compliance with current standards. Our active involvement with standardization bodies is definitively a key differentiator between TeamCast and its competition and gives us the opportunity to provide solutions as soon as new standards emerge to the benefit of our customers.
Q. Where are you based, and how many employees do you have? Anything else we should know about your company?
TeamCast has been going for four years and we have enjoyed 30 percent growth per year. We are based in France (Brittany: the Telecom Valley) and have a subsidiary in Chicago. We have very strong involvement in standardisation effort (DVB-H, SH, T2, FLO) and in collaborative R&D projects. Thanks to our OEM business model strategy, we have a number of prestigious worldwide partners.
Q. How many years have you been going to the IBC show and what’s your fondest memory? What’s your favourite restaurant or pub?
I’ve been attending IBC for 15 years, and a great memory of storms on Brighton’s beach.
